Overview:Connecting to Earth Day, recycling, and the book “Rain Fish”, use recycled/re-purposed materials to create an animal or creature assemblage sculpture. An assemblage is a sculpture made from assembled parts. Recycling and re-purposing materials is an important way we can protect our Earth! Supplies Needed:
Found objects from around your house, from nature, and interesting thingsthat might end up in yourrecycle bins!
Scissors (optional-could be torn)
Paper (optional-for background)
Paint (optional-if you want to modify the color of the animal or paint a background)
Glue/Tape (optional-could assemble as collage and take a picture)
Directions: 1. Watch this video read aloud of the book, Rain Fish by Lois Ehlert. Why did the author call the fish assemblage sculptures she made “rain fish”? 2. Watch the”Litter Critter” tutorial. 3. Start with either a certain animal in mind and then search for objects around your home of certain shapes or colors you need to make that animal OR, for an extra challenge, gather a few interesting items and get inspired by their shapes, forms, lines or textures to lead you to your animal/creature. 4. Play and try different arrangements to assemble your objects into an animal or critter. Glue the parts togetheror take a photo of your assemblage. 5. Have fun with this recycled art activity, and don’t forget towash your hands when you're done! 6. Share a photo of your creation with your Art teacher!
